Reflection:
Explain how your experience affected you as a personMy experience affected me as a person by showing me the other side of football. I was the person telling the player what to do and seeing them either get it or become frustrated. It gave me a different outlook on all coaches and what they have to put into the players and the team in order to do it full time. It was definitely a humbling experience.
How did you change?
I became more aware of the difficult situations coaches can be in when trying to explain something to a layer that might not be the simplest idea. It takes a lot of thought and effort to get to know how a certain player learns and how they can be most effectively coached.
How do you see the world differently as a result of your experience?
I have become more amazed by coaches in general, especially the great coaches in the world of sports. It makes me curious a to what hey do differently from the rest that makes them so good at what they do.
How did this experience impact or reveal your character?
I have always been a perfectionist, and Kaelyn was the same way. Trying to explain to her that not every throw is going to be perfect was something I realized that I also needed to get through my head. You can not be affective as a quarterback if you are constantly worrying about the last throw not being perfect, or hoping the next throw is. You have to trust yourself to do what needs to be done, and move on to the next play without reminiscing on what you've just done.
Was this a meaningful experience? why or why not?
This was a meaningful experience to me. I have been in athletics and been coached my entire life. This was an experience that showed me a different outlook that has had such a huge impact on my life.
What new knowledge or skills did you learn from this experience?
I gained some patience and coaching tactics that I can use if I ever decide to pursue a career in coaching or coach a little league team.
What would you do differently if you were to start over?
I would get with Kaelyn before the first practice began, break the ice, and try to get a little bit of the throwing mechanics down before the first practice started. That way we would hit the ground running and maybe get a little more done in what little practice time we did have.
